Seed Starting Calendar

Timing is everything in the garden. This free seed-starting calendar turns your last spring frost and first fall frost dates into a sowing schedule for 16 common vegetables — when to start seeds indoors, when to transplant, and when to direct sow, plus last safe sowing dates for a fall garden. Dates are guidelines based on standard week offsets; your microclimate and the variety you grow always have the final say.

Enter your frost dates and get a planting schedule for 16 common vegetables — when to start seeds indoors, when to transplant, when to direct sow, and (for fall) the last safe sowing date.

How the dates are figured

Spring dates count backward or forward from your last frost date using standard week offsets (e.g. tomatoes start indoors 6–8 weeks before). Fall sowing dates count back from your first fall frost: days to maturity plus a 14-day “fall factor,” since growth slows as days shorten. These are guidelines — your microclimate and variety matter.
