How it’s figured
For each crop we compute three target dates from your average frost dates: start indoors = last spring frost minus the crop’s indoor-start weeks; sow outdoors = last spring frost plus its outdoor-sow weeks; sow for fall = first fall frost minus (days to maturity + 14 days of slack). Tasks whose target date lands within 7 days of today make the list, nearest first, capped at 10. Frost dates are long-term averages from published tables (Old Farmer’s Almanac and Extension sources); a ZIP maps to the nearest of 85 reporting cities. Averages, not guarantees — your seed packet and local Extension office know your exact area best.
