How it’s figured
- Typical Extension-published new-lawn rates (lbs of seed per 1,000 sq ft): Kentucky bluegrass 2–3, Perennial ryegrass 5–8, Tall fescue 6–8, Fine fescue 3–5, Bermudagrass 1–2, Zoysiagrass 1–2, Buffalograss 3–5.
- The calculator uses the midpoint of each range, since the “right” rate within the range depends on conditions.
- Seed needed = lawn area ÷ 1,000 × midpoint rate.
- The “with extra” line adds 10% for patch-ups.
