Wondering how much mulch to order? Enter your bed or area size and the depth you want, and this calculator tells you how much mulch you need in cubic feet, cubic yards, and standard 2-cubic-foot bags. Enter your bed or area size and how deep you want the mulch. Get the volume in cubic feet and cubic yards, plus how many 2-cubic-foot bags to buy.
How it’s figured
Volume = length × width × (depth ÷ 12). Cubic yards = cubic feet ÷ 27. Bag count assumes standard 2-cubic-foot bags and rounds up. For most beds, 2–3 inches of mulch suppresses weeds while letting water through; 4 inches is the practical maximum — deeper can suffocate roots.
